Aloha, beauties! Aloha being the very appropriate greeting today as I have a review/feature of a gorgeous new dress by Blue Velvet Vintage. I was lucky enough to be contacted and asked if I would like to choose a dress from either the Classic Dame Pinup House Brand: fabulous and flattering ‘50s inspired frocks made in the USA with fine fabrics and distinct designs including polka dots, floral prints and more or the Blue Velvet Vintage Flapper Dresses: gorgeous reproductions of roaring ‘20s designs, meticulously hand decorated with beads, sequins and flirty fringe. I obviously jumped at the opportunity and naturally leaned more towards the Classic Dame line as I love pinup style!
This is how Blue Velvet Vintage describe their 'Classic Dame' line -
'Our Blue Velvet Vintage Classic Dame brand is a line of vintage inspired dresses that celebrate the glamour and femininity of mid 20th century fashions. Our 50s style dresses are designed to flatter the figure and bring out the bombshell in every woman, while still having you look ladylike and elegant. We want you to feel like a 1950s Hollywood pinup whenever you put one on!
Producing locally, in limited quantities, enables us to keep a strict quality control over every one. We also use fine quality fabrics and incorporate the distinctive design details of the originals. Our exclusive collection of retro dresses is in keeping with the unique, one of a kind theme that attracts so many women to authentic vintage clothing and assures you'll never see someone else at an event in the same outfit! Our mission is to make high quality, pretty dresses here in the USA, that will ultimately become the collectible vintage fashions of the future!'
After browsing through the beautiful selection of dresses, I chose the 'Coquette' dress in the beige colourway.

It's pretty easy to see why I chose this dress - hibiscus flowers, orchids and palm fronds. You couldn't get more tiki-fabulous if you tried... Well... I did try... And I succeeded. As you'll see from my photo's, I added my Peach Flamingo cactus brooch to the centre of the bust to add a little something extra. The 'Coquette' dress is made from a 'medium weight cotton' (as the website states) and my only critique is that I wish the material had a little more 'substance' to it as I feel it is a bit thin for my liking, especially as I live in the UK where unfortunately the temperatures aren't as tropical as my dress! However, if you lived in a a country with warmer climates I can see how this would be a benefit to the dress. Although, material wise I did really love that the white bust fold-over collar was made from a sturdier cotton pique.
I ordered a size M which runs a tiny bit too big on me, but it's nothing a belt can't fix! I would LOVE if this dress came with a matching belt or even just a matching waist tie so that I could really nip the waist in without interrupting the flow of the gorgeous pattern.
The dress is photographed with a petticoat but I think it would still look great without one - it would just have a more laid back relaxed vibe to it. I really wanted to pair this dress with some killer hair flowers, but I didn't have ones that did it justice (I am currently in the process of fixing this problem ;D ), so I will be taking some more photo's on the beach with some matching hair accessories once the weather warms up slightly and I get my hands on some faux florals.
Now for my photo's...
Overall, I really love the dress and the service from Blue Velvet Vintage was great! There are definitely a few other styles that I have been eyeing up and would love to get my paws on! Let me know if you have anything from Blue Velvet Vintage and what you thought! <3
I hope you're having a fantastic Easter weekend!
All my love,
