These are my top five reasons why I LOVE AUTUMN! I've also included some seasonal recommendations and even some recipes for you, too :-).
Autumnal Colours
For me, autumn isn't autumn without the trees & leaves. You know the season's have truly changed when you're greeted with rugs of crunchy leaves and fire-coloured trees. Mustard, burgundy, brown and olive are the essential colour palette for autumn and I just love it. I adore the fact that they all go together so well no matter what combination you wear them. I love that nature covers everywhere with these rusty, warm colours this time of year - it's just so cozy!
Seasonal Hot Drinks & Comfort Food
Whenever I think of the colder months, one of the first things that comes to mind is memories of sitting cozy in Costa or Starbucks sampling their new festive drinks. I am not a coffee drinker so I usually opt for the uniquely flavoured hot chocolates or I just go for my all time favourite which is the Hazelnut Hot Chocolate with whipped cream (of course!). Mmmmm! For me, there is something very comforting and special about going to a coffee shop with a loved one and relaxing with a hot drink. It's just a nice time to relax and unwind, especially now that the shops are getting busier in the lead up to the big 'C' word!
You can make your own festive seasonal drinks at home by just buying your own syrups! My favourite are Sweetbird as they are sugar free and are also free from artificial colours are other nasties... Here is a link to my fave Hazelnut one to make my ultimate hot chocolate!
I just warm up a cup of milk (you can do this in the microwave or on the stove), stir in a good few heaped spoons of Cadbury's Hot Chocolate and a nice splash of the hazelnut syrup. Delish!
The moment the temperature drops, I immediately want ALL of the comfort food... I'm talking gravy, pie, roast dinners, soups, stews, potatoes... Give me them all. There are fewer things more soothing than sitting cuddled up on the sofa with a blanket in fleece pj's with a bowl of stew and dumplings. Yum yum!
And if you're having a really lazy day, Marks & Spencer do a really lovely Beef Stew & Dumplings Microwave meal that I can definitely recommend that is ready in just minutes!
Wrapping Up & Being Cozy!
I know most people moan when it's cold and everyone has to layer up, but as long as I'm prepared and suitably wrapped up, I just love it. I live by the seaside and there is something so magical about strolling along the seafront covered head to toe in fleecy jumpers and knits whilst the cold winds bluster around you. I also love it when you've been out for the day in the bone-chilling weather, you come home, whack the heating on high, peel your layers off. make a hot cup of tea and wrap yourself up in a giant blanket. Bliss!
Admittedly, the colder weather means that you can't always show off your fabulous outfits as much as you can in Summer, but I say that's just an excuse to buy a bitchin' new winter coat and invest in some new leather boots... Am I right?!
To stay warm, I recommend in getting yourself some of Primark's Fleece Lined Leggings or their 'Velvet Plush' Leggings which will keep you extra toasty in these bitterly cold months!
Halloween & Bonfire Night!
Perhaps the most obvious reason to look forward to October! Halloweeeeeeeeeeeen! I have to be honest, I am a total sucker for anything seasonal (hence this post!) and festive. I just love all the decoration and how everything becomes themed. I unfortunately haven't dressed up for Halloween in ages (boo hiss!), but I do absolutely LOVE fancy dress.
Bonfire night/fireworks night is another occasion that makes me feel so cozy and excited. Swaddling yourself in all of the layers and heading out for night to watch the explosions in the sky with your close ones with maybe even a cheeky sparkler is just the best. The smell of bonfires/fireworks just sum up autumn for me.
Vampy Makeup
Maybe slightly less obvious than the others, but I just adore swapping my usual red lippy for a darker shade this time of year. I have always been a lover of dark lipstick and this is just the perfect time to dust off your berry shades and darkening up your eye makeup! I am a total sucker for glitter and I love love love adding it to your eyes as an all over sparkle or just as a way to jazz up your usual cat-eye.
My favourite make up picks for when you want to make your face a bit more 'fall-inspired' are...
Revlon's Colorstay Eyeshadow Quad in 'Adventurous' is my ultimate Autumn shadow palette. Photo's don't do it justice, but there's a golden light highlight shade, a metallic olive shade, a warm coppery rust shade and a chocolate matte brown.
Rimmel Provocalip's are my favourite lip product at the moment. The colour's are spot on and the balm makes them super comfortable to wear. They last all day, but if I've eaten something particularly greasy or my lips are particularly chapped I use a different lip product (such as Bourjois lip velvets) to top them up if they've worn away a little at the centre to avoid my lips getting flakey or the product becoming too 'thick'. My favourite shade is a deep rich red (the bottom one) called Play With Fire.
If you want some glitter on your eyes, I suggest trying Collection's Glam Crystal's liner. They have LOADS of different colours to choose from and they work just as well all over the lid as they do as a a liner.
